INNOVATIVE ANCHOR
EASES TASK OF FREQUENT RE-SETTING

Frequent re-anchoring is a pain, especially in difficult conditions.  Designed specifically for anglers, divers and others who anchor several times a day, the Rocna Fisherman sets firmly and is easily retrieved in all conditions, including rock, reef, sand and weed.

Designed for smaller, weight-sensitive boats, the galvanized anchor is available in 9 and 13 lb. models.  The Fisherman features a shackle rail for easier recovery of a fouled anchor from the opposite direction.  A secure attachment point is designed for overnight anchoring.

The Rocna Fisherman’s design is based on the Rocna Original, which is classified by RINA to the highest level
available, Super High Holding Power (SHHP).  A Rocna possesses stopping power vastly superior to equivalent-weight plough or claw type anchors in soft sand or mud due to the large, concave blade.

Rocna’s roll-bar ensures the anchor will always turn itself to the correct attitude for setting.  Skid rails then direct the blade into the seabed and the chisel-like tip easily cuts through weeds or hard bottoms.  The anchors are not susceptible to sudden trip out and will remain embedded even when dragged under extreme loads.

The roll-bar also can be used as a handle.  If lost or fouled, the Rocna may be recovered from the surface by
snaring the roll-bar with a grapnel or other hook.

On smaller boats, weight matters, and in a Fisherman, every ounce of metal is put to use.  The roll-bar avoids the need to weight the toe with extra lead or cast iron.  The lack of dedicated lead reduces the profile of the fluke, facilitating setting in undergrowth.  The absence of lead is better for the marine environment and eliminates complications when the anchor requires re-galvanizing.

A Rocna self-launches and locks home on most bow rollers.  A tight curve radius between the shank and
blade gives a positive lock, preventing movement at sea.  The slotted shackle attachment point allows single-shackle fixing.  The Fisherman is rock-solid with no moving parts, eliminating complex adjustment systems and potentially dangerous failure points.

A hot-dip galvanized finish covers the Fisherman with protective zinc, including the interior of the hollow roll-bar.  Ecologically friendly, owners don’t have to worry about anchor drag in fragile environments.

The Rocna Fisherman anchors have suggested retail prices starting at $159.99.

NEW KODEN MDC-2000 SERIES RADAR PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL-GRADE
PERFORMANCE FOR LARGE RECREATIONAL AND COMMERCIAL VESSELS

Large 10.4-Inch Color Display, Dual-Range Display and Hyper Digital
Processing (HDP™)
Among Features of This Advanced System

SI-TEX Marine Electronics has announced availability of the new-for-2011 Koden MDC-2000 Series Radar.  With a 10.4-inchcolor LCD display a long list of advanced features and a range of power outputs from 4kW to 12kW, this professional-grade radar series is ideal for a variety of vessels, from recreational yachts to commercial fishing boats to passenger transport vessels.  With a starting MSRP of $4,895, the Koden MDC-2000 Series is an affordable option for vessels wanting a trusted name, the latest technology and the backing of SI-TEX Marine Electronics’ trademark customer service.

Models include the MDC-2041 (4kW/32nm range), MDC-2040 (4kW/48nm range), MDC-2060 (6kW/64nm range) and MDC-2010 (12kW/72nm range).  Each of these units is designed with Koden’s Hyper Digital Processing (HDP™) technology, for real-time presentation of targets that allows for smooth movement on the display as the bearing changes. Real-time target detection and tracking is further enhanced by the MDC-2000’s
two-speed antenna scanning (25 and 50 rpm), providing optional performance at any vessel speed.  HVP technology also provides superior target discrimination, virtually eliminating unwanted “noise,” delivering a clear, highly detailed image and enhancing detection of smaller targets for added safety. Koden’s True Trail function clearly differentiates moving targets from stationary objects such as buoys, moored vessels or land features — great when navigating crowded waterways.

Koden’s proven Dual Range Display provides split screen displays of both long- and short-range targets simultaneously. This feature —like having two radars in one — enhances the navigator’s overall awareness of vessel traffic, potential dangers and his vessel’s relative position. Koden’s high-resolution LCD screen features a bonded anti-reflective coating that provides superior visibility in direct sunlight and prevents condensation.

The MDC-2000 Series provides a range of advanced functionalities for professional users, including standard 50-target ARPA function (with speed/bearing/heading data input) and optional AIS tracking of up to 100 targets at a time.   Each of these individual radar units accepts input from a CCD camera, allowing the navigator to closely monitor activities on or below decks at all times while underway.

Alliance For Safe Navigation Announces Latest Survey For
Recreational Boaters

Survey Intended to Measure Boaters’ Awareness of Updates to Navigational Tools

The Alliance for Safe Navigation, whose mission is to raise boater awareness about the importance of accurate navigational information, has announced its annual survey for recreational boaters. The survey’s purpose is to
gauge boaters’ awareness of available updates to navigational tools and their concerns related to accuracy. This year’s survey also will gather data concerning groundings and whether they were related to a lack of accurate navigational tools.

While most boaters use aids such as GPS, electronic charts and paper charts, the 2010 survey of 7,570 boaters revealed that most respondents do not routinely purchase current charts that reflect weekly updates issued by the United States Coast Guard. These updates, called the Local Notice to Mariners, contain critical information about changes such as shifting shoals, moved buoys and newly submerged obstructions; boaters can easily access these updates.

“Changes happen every single day, and one seemingly small change can be very important when it comes to boater safety,” explains Ken Cirillo, business development executive for Jeppesen, a founding member of the alliance. “By using charts that are current, whether those charts are paper or electronic, boaters improve their odds of avoiding accidents and groundings.”

“Significant and frequent changes on—and under—the water happen, and boaters need to remain aware of these changes to ensure their safety,” says David Enabnit, technical director at NOAA’s Office of Coast Survey. “The Alliance for Safe Navigation strongly suggests that updated navigational tools are the best approach to safe navigation.”

To see the latest USCG Notice to Mariners for your location, visit Notice to Mariners. For more information or to find out how many changes have been made to your charts, go to www.allianceforsafenavigation.org.

About the Alliance for Safe Navigation
The Alliance for Safe Navigation (www.allianceforsafenavigation.org) consists of industry leaders that all share a commitment to boating safety. The goal of the alliance is to raise the boating community’s understanding of and
appreciation for up-to-date navigational information. The alliance encourages mariners to recognize the high number of changes made to their charts and to keep their electronic and paper charts accurate. Sponsored by NOAA, the alliance is made up of BoatU.S., Jeppesen, OceanGrafix, the Sea Tow Foundation for Boating Safety and Education, and the United States Power Squadrons.

Centek Gen-Kleen Systems

The Gen-Kleen system is a  pollution-control technology for marine generator sets. Gen-Kleen integrates with your generators wet exhaust  system to remove hydrocarbon pollution from the exhaust water before it is  returned to the natural environment.

Gen-Kleen removes hydrocarbon pollutants including sheen,  soot, and unspent gasoline and diesel fuels.

Why use Gen-Kleen?

  • Comply with existing and upcoming marina and  port mandates regulating unsightly generator discharge.
  • Enjoy a sheen-free setting for  swimming, diving, and fishing.
  • Keep the hull of the boat clean of  soot deposits during generator use.
  • Be ecologically responsive to the  sensitive marine environment.

How does it work?

The Gen-Kleen system begins by separating  the raw cooling water from the exhaust gases.   While the dry exhaust gases are vented to atmosphere, the raw cooling  water is scrubbed by a filtration system.   The filters are impregnated with a patented formula that binds and  captures hydrocarbons while allowing clean water to pass through.  Clean water is then returned to the  environment.

What are the features?

  • To accommodate different engine room  layouts, the Gen-Kleen system is offered in two basic models.  The Compact Gen-Kleen integrates many of the  system components into a single package. The Component Gen-Kleen allows the user to disperse the components  throughout the engine compartment as space allows.
  • The Gen-Kleen system is fail-safe.  Functionality of the generator set is never  compromised by functionality of the Gen-Kleen system.
  • The Gen-Kleen system is built to withstand the harsh marine  engine room environment.  Its  corrosion-resistant design uses only high-temperature fiberglass and 316L  stainless steel wetted parts.
  • Filters are easily user-changeable as needed.  Filter lifespans vary widely (due to great  differences in generator exhaust pollution levels), but typical users report  normal lifespans of 100-200 generator hours.
  • The Gen-Kleen system includes a selectable bypass  mode.  Owners may choose to run the  system any time the generator is on and discharge only clean water, or, they  may choose to run the system only as needed and preserve filter life.
