Dear Capt. Ken: Having just completed a rather long voyage from our Texas, Gulf Coast-based home port through the Canal and Central America, and as we were intent on visiting some friends out on the west coast of California, we decided to join them for a road trip from the Los Angeles area up to the Napa wine country. Along the way, we made some very interesting stops; among them Santa Barbara, San Simeon, and this particular beach with, as you can readily see, lots of elephant seals. We kept our distance and most of the time, they ignored us; once in a while, lifting a head and sniffing in the air.
