NOVA LUXE YACHTS LAUNCHES ELECTRIC POWER CAT

With the launch of its first build, New York-based Nova Luxe Yachts redefines the idea of a luxury cruising. The company converts new 35’–50′ power catamarans to all-electric, creating vessels of virtually unlimited range and zero emissions. Its introductory offering, an Aquila 44, is being fitted-out at a yard in St. Petersburg, Florida, and debuts on June 1 at the Westshore Yacht Club in Tampa.

Nova Luxe Yachts marries the proven reliability of Torqeedo Deep Blue drives, BMW i3 batteries and a massive rooftop solar array to an ocean-tested hull, creating an engineered package that outperforms its diesel-powered counterpart. The result with the Aquila 44 is an environmentally friendly luxury yacht that cruises for over 1,250 miles at 6.5 knots —vibration-free and quieter than a sailboat.

Because previous electric propulsion solutions on luxury yachts failed so publically and spectacularly, consumers are understandably skeptical. The difference between what’s been tried in the past and what Nova Luxe is doing is the battery.

“The automotive industry has advanced DC technology to where battery-powered marine propulsion doesn’t mean sacrifice, but is in many ways superior to diesel,” said Marc Hawxhurst, Nova Luxe Yachts president. “Torqeedo’s high-performance, high-voltage BMW i3 lithium-ion battery is completely waterproof, packs an astounding 40 kWh of power and comes with a nine-year warranty. It’s the perfect choice for our luxury yachts.”

The Aquila 44 was chosen by its owner because it strikes the ideal balance between stability, size, weight and the ability to be captained solo. With three staterooms, it makes the ideal Great Loop boat. The Nova Luxe build includes a requested 25kW genset to supplement the power generated by the 16 350W solar panels when cruising long distances in cloudy northern regions.

Even the Aquila’s tender, a ZAR Mini aluminum RIB, is green. Boasting a 50-mile range, it carries a Torqeedo Cruise 10.0 and is charged by a power supply station integrated into the yacht. At the 2019 Miami International Boat Show, Nova Luxe Yachts demonstrated the performance of an electric solution by reaching 20 mph and planing with two adults on the ZAR.

Aside from Aquila, Nova Luxe Yachts offers new pre-fitted electric Aspen Power, Bavaria, Fountaine Pajot, Havana, Leopard and Maine Cat catamarans. Workmanship and attention to detail complement the meticulous standards of quality these boats are renowned for.

Interested parties attending the June 1 event are encouraged to RSVP at bit.ly/NovaLuxeDebut. Space for sea trials is limited.

The underneath of the top features digital lighting and a huge netted storage area–a Grady specialty. Ten rod holders here are fishing-ready, and four deluxe stereo speakers provide the soundtrack to any adventure.  For extra convenience, this Canyon comes equipped with a remote-controlled anchor light on the T-top, making the transition from day to night as simple as a press of a button.  Safety handrails are seamlessly built-in, just where you need them.

456_021518btdp-1422_big-thumb.jpg

Aft port and starboard cockpit side doors are positioned perfectly for landing fish or boarding.  Another useful feature is the hot and cold freshwater shower mounted near the starboard side door, ready for a quick rinse after a swim or dive, or to wash off your rods after a catch. There is handy storage for six rods under the aft gunwales and, just forward, additional lockable storage for four more. Twin livewells are located in the transom area port and starboard, adjacent to the expansive aft refrigerated/freezer fish box. This aft box comes with two partitions so it can be sectioned in three sizes, to adjust for your catch of the day. On the interior transom wall is a thoughtfully designed area to mount an up to 24″ electronic display screen so the aft facing crew can see navigation direction, fish sounder, and the exact position of the last strike—all the information a fish fighter needs. The aft transom itself includes a brand new high volume overboard draining scupper system, plus a Glendenning 35-foot, 50 amp motorized retractable shore power cord. The Canyon 456 is powered by quad Yamaha outboard engines, and boasts the Reverso® pre-programmed engine flushing system to keep them running perfectly. This Grady shines at night with water level LED lights.

456_dsc8239_big-thumb.jpg

Access to the expansive console cabin is via a sliding door with screen, located just forward of the portside bridge seat. To port of the integrated cabin steps is a cedar-lined closet. Large side windows provide ample ambient light to fill the interior space. A dazzling combination of exotic wood, superb cabinetry, luxurious fabrics, and Corian® countertops greet the eye. Below the portside countertop is a full-size microwave drawer, and a six-bottle wine cooler for entertaining.

456_dsc8259_big-thumb.jpg
A stainless steel sink and a cooktop are located amidships on the starboard counter, with a refrigerator drawer below. Lighted glass shelves are above the counters on each side. Forward center, there’s an electronically controlled solid sapele wood dining table inlaid with teak and brushed aluminum accents, seating up to four. Simply lower the table for a forward berth that sleeps two comfortably. Overhead, the screened hatch offers plenty of fresh air and ocean breezes on demand. A 32″ flat screen television is centered on the forward bulkhead. Retractable vertical storage for four rods, neatly set under the portside countertop, hides away when not in use. Alongside the berth, port and starboard, are the innovative, patent-pending Integrated Rod Storage Slides™ securely stowing four more rods. The generous console head is starboard, and includes a lighted, mirrored glass cabinet over the stainless steel sink, and a shower with a classic teak grid floor. A clever, elegant hinged fiberglass door partitions off the shower area, keeping the rest of the compartment dry, and creates an additional locker for another four rods.  This luxurious cabin hosts lockable storage for a total of 12 rods.

456_dsc8266_big-thumb.jpg

On deck, forward of the cabin, the Canyon 456 proves it has a double life as an elegant lounge-and-leisure platform. Atop the forward cabin, very comfortable lounge cushions create an incomparable space for sun worshippers. The bow seating area continues the theme of exceptional detail, comfort, and elegant style. There are two large plumbed, insulated boxes portside (43 and 123 quarts), and a huge 210-quart box starboard. Atop the boxes, deeply cushioned seating complemented by three-way positioned stowable backrests surrounds two motorized semi-circular fiberglass tables. When the tables are in the down position, they can be covered with cushions for yet another lounging platform. One notable advantage of the semicircular tables is that they allow access all the way to the bow and windless, and loungers need not move out of the way! Anchor rode storage include up to 400 feet of rode and 30 feet of chain. Drop the plow anchor anywhere the crew wants to stop. If fishermen are sight casting off the bow, remove the cushions, and–voila!–there’s an ample, strong casting platform.

456_dsc8246_big-thumb.jpg
The new flagship Canyon 456 epitomizes Grady-White’s storied legacy of 59 years of building comfortable, superbly engineered, superior quality boats built for the toughest conditions, shaped for the best ride, and fine-tuned for the highest fishing functionality. Here’s a superb fishing yacht, true to its purebred sportfishing heart and soul, that takes luxury and versatility to a new dimension.

The full Grady-White line-up for 2018 includes 28 models ranging from 18 feet to 45 feet (5.44 -13.72 m), and features express cabin, walkaround cabin, center console and dual console style boats, offering unparalleled versatility for any water activity from offshore fishing to watersports to evening cruises. dsc_3982BRUCKMANN DAYSAILER 42′

The art of day sailing

sailboat-underway

Classic lines and a beautiful profile typify the Doug Zurn designed Bruckmann Daysailer. Photo Credit: Onne van der Wal

The Bruckmann Daysailer (Canada) enters the design race as a confident daysailer and capable performance yacht. A split personality, she may readily carry upwards of eight individuals for an excursion around the bay, and yet she is equally adept as an overnighter. In either instance she will be a true performer and head turner, as exhibited by her low profile, aggressive sail plan and performance-oriented shoal draft keel. Characterized by a clean deck layout, commodious cockpit, inviting interior, and lightweight glass construction, the Bruckmann Daysailer presents her owner with an extremely versatile sailing yacht, capable of tackling whatever task the day whips up.

EXTERIOR

The weather deck offers a wide, uncluttered working environment for tending to all of the vessel’s needs, even in the most adverse conditions. Only a low profile raised cabin house interrupts the spacious deck forward to accommodate guests below. The aft cockpit offers a secure vantage point from which to observe and adjust all aspects of trim and course heading with all control lines leading to two perfectly located islands athwartship from one another.

The Bruckmann Daysailer features modern rigging and deck hardware components. Manufactures such as Lewmar, Harken and Edson represent the best performance and quality available on the market today and are strategically specified throughout the deck plan. Spars are constructed of economical aluminum with carbon fiber available as an option to achieve the maximum in strength-to-weight performance.

All control lines are lead to the aft cockpit where a single driver can control all aspects of fine-tuning the sails. The main halyard and reefing lines are located on top of the cabin house to port, and can be fitted with an electric winch if requested. A central hydraulic system located at the helm station controls the boom vang and backstay. A 100% roller-furling jib aids the guests in simplifying upwind sailing.

INTERIOR

The interior furthers the smart design features and quality components found on deck. Upon entering the cabin house, the light service galley on port provides guests with such amenities as 12VDC refrigeration, microwave, stainless steel sink and cabinetry for stowing all necessary supplies.

To starboard is a commodious head with sink and storage. Five-inch thick cushions provide comfort for sitting or sleeping while six opening ports and two opening deck hatches allow natural lighting and abundant ventilation. A centerline table is available for interior dining. Forward of the settees are end tables and hanging lockers and the forepeak may be fitted with a V-berth if so desired.

CONSTRUCTION

The E-glass and Core-Cell@ hull and deck are built using the highest quality stitched fabrics and vinyl-ester resins resulting in an extremely durable and light structure. The interior joiner work is comprised primarily of fine, hand-selected, gloss varnished mahogany trim over Formica@ laminated bulkheads and cabinetry, accented by Corian countertops and a traditional teak and holly sole. All hardware is stainless steel.

dsc_3982Rebel 47

Christian Grande, again in partnership with SACS for the REBEL 47 presents a revolution in the world of RIBs

Rebel begins. Rebel escapes from the conventions that have limited the world of RIBs for too long. Rebel stands out with delicately sculptured shapes, engraved in matter – clean aesthetics rich with sinuous curves that coexist with tenuous, barely noticeable corners and edges.
rebel-47
Rebel is balance and pure minimalism, as a whole and in every detail – fiercely pugnacious, worthy of its standing as the firstborn in the new gamma destined to stand out and excel. Everything on the Rebel 47 reveal its “leisure spirit” and show a new way of enjoying the cruising experience thanks to the unique trade-mark of Christian Grande, the designer that has distinguished the full Sacs Strider line in terms of innovation, look, materials’ selection and spaces’ arrangement. With the words of Christian Grande -designer of the Rebel, you can feel his absolute severance from the past and his projection into the future: “In designing the Rebel 47, I wanted to create a clear break, concrete rather than provocative, with the usual design framework. To do this I immediately thought of the concept of a rebel, a solitary predator or member of an elite tribe, a tribe that neither conforms to convention nor wishes to. When I think about the Rebel, and the larger and smaller brothers to come, it is the tribal rule, a closed circle, that first inspired me and will inspire the future models.”
The Rebel 47’s Innovative Tube Technology
Rebel 47 is created with a high level of technological innovation and maintains all the qualities of a RIB while allowing for increased and improved living space without compromising the performance and safety typical of a RIB. Rebel 47 is in a category of its own. Rebel is the first example of a family of innovative and unique boats.
rebel-47-tube
The D-shaped solid tubes are not inflated but made of a state-of-the-art composition of moldable foams and hi-tech anti collision plastics material, sheathed in Neoprene Hypalon. Pandering the boat sculpted design, the tubes maintain their active role in the hydrodynamic project assuring all the positive attributes of conventional tubes–like. The result is an unbeatable durability along with a unique dry ride plus an improved stability during navigation or at the anchor.
Two Versions
Rebel 47 is extremely versatile and will be available in two different configurations. One as “protected version” and another one as“Mediterranean” with a classic all-in-line layout.
In the first version released – the Mediterranean – Rebel 47 with its high ship sides together with the wide “U shaped” windshield, allow the guests on board to stay in the living space as in a limousine. From the swimming platform, passed by the wide aft sunbed, guests have one unrestricted access into the cockpit.
The indispensable wet bar, countered by the welcoming upholstery and fitted with ice maker, fridges and even a cooktop (all options), is hidden in an elegant, functional and modern piece of furniture -promising to live unforgettable moments.
rebel-47-open

Extra Spaces and Extra Comfort

The additional useable beam created by the ‘D’ shaped tubes, allows the wide lateral passageways that extend all the way to the bow. The protective gunnels with the handrails reduce the sense of exposure and promote the confidence to move around the boat even when cruising at high speed. Once to the front, right after the massive sunbed, the reward
of one unique relaxing area, with two ergonomic chaise-lounges, is definitively the most comfortable and exhilarating position aboard.
The massive swimming platform can be offered also in the hydraulic version while, beneath the sun-pad, a voluminous storage area can accommodate a series of toys if not a roll-up inflatable tender.
Interiors
The lower deck is characterized by a unique height in its category, and the harmony between the light Rovere wood and the dark Wengè creates a really refined environment. On the bow, a super queen size bed welcomes the guests in the elegant and well-designed owner dinette-room, which is very comfortable thanks to the chromatic variation and the extraordinary spaces volume.
rebel-47-interior
A second double cabin on the stern, a modern bathroom with a rain-shower and a separate WC complete the internal spaces.
christian-grandeChristian Grande is one of the youngest Italian designers to become part of the palmares of yacht designers. He has designed innovative vessels since 1992, courageously creating innovative yachts that will later become corner stones in nautical design. Presently Cristian has completed over 100 yacht designs and been presented with more than 15 international awards.

DSC_3511ARCADIA 85S

21st Century technology and a bold vision results in a truly special yacht.

Arcadia 85S underway

The Arcadia 85S is designed to be a family yacht, which combines different exterior functions – actually over two decks, giving guests more opportunity to spend time together. The interiors profit by the advanced aesthetic sensation of “open space” and closer contact with nature thanks to the the full “floor-to-ceiling” windows.

The layout and the functional living concepts of Arcadia 85S are the result of a construction evolution: the linear design of the superstructure and the vertical line of the bow allow a better use of every single available internal/external space. Living capacity is wider than other yachts of the same size. The uniqueness of Arcadia’s project is finding in the design a solution to integrate solar panels into a yacht.

Arcadia 85S hull #1 has improved her soundproofing capacity index, replacing the PVC, for the fore part of the hull, with Balsa core sandwich structure. The advanced semi-planing hull which allows efficient performance together with the very light aluminum superstructure significantly reduces weight and fuel consumption and other related running costs of its low-power engines.

The 25.90 metre (84.95ft) Arcadia 85S has a full load displacement of 67 tons. She is powered by twin MAN diesels R6-730hp each (optional engines 2xMAN 1000hp), giving her a maximum speed of 18 knots. She can comfortably cruise at 16 knots as well as 12.0 knots. Her range is approximately 850NM @12.0 knots.

INNOVATIVE FLY BRIDGE

Arcadia 85S features on this “special edition” include a new sky-lounge concept, which can be converted into a sheltered third-deck, completely closed and protected by 360 degree openable windows that can be raised up to meet the hard-top.

Arcadia bridge

Therefore, the whole upper-deck area becomes much more flexible and usable with any weather condition, being air-conditioned in very hot climes or bad weather, or left open if needed as per any traditional sky-lounge. On the third deck is the wheelhouse, a lounge with sofas and coffee tables, wet-bar and, externally in the aft, a sun-deck.

NPL HULL AND PERFORMANCE
Arcadia 85S has a semi-displacement NPL hull, named after the National Physical Laboratory of England where tests were conducted to determine its shape for the best ratio of length to beam in terms of hydrodynamic efficiency.

Arcadai 85S aft

Studies were implemented by Arcadia’s technical department prior to adopting the NPL as its hull. The result is excellent sea keeping qualities and noise reduction and exceptional comfort. This advanced hull, together with the light Arcadia superstructure, allows very satisfactory performance with low-power engines. It significantly reduces fuel consumption and related running costs compared to other yachts of similar dimensions.

ADDITIONAL ENERGY FROM SOLAR PANELS
The latest generation of solar cells are integrated between the external and internal surfaces of double-glazing panels fitted on top of the largest part of the superstructure. The 36ksqm of solar panels – each composed of hundreds of high performance solar cells – installed onboard the Arcadia 85S is an advanced and ecologically-friendly system supplying up to 3,5kw, enough to guarantee self-sufficient energy for equipment and electrical systems such as refrigerators, water circulation, toilets, lights, A/V, electronics, all while recharging the batteries.

Arcadia 85S overhead

This enables the power needed on board while at anchor, excluding the air conditioning system, to be supplied “free of charge” all day long by the solar panels system and convertor rather than the generators. This results in a significant saving of diesel oil, less pollution and more comfort on board thanks to the substantial reduction of noise, vibration, and no emissions while enjoying your time close to the swim platform. Each double-glazing panel contains special Krypton gas which guarantees a high thermo-isolating coefficient, up to 18° of thermal cooling between interior and exterior temperatures, which is the equivalent of a 20 cm brick wall.

DESIGN AND LAYOUT
The design is by Francesco Guida and his vision sees Arcadia 85S reflecting simple and understated styling with a harmonious blend between the indoor and outdoor areas. Her deckhouse has been made almost entirely out of double layered reflecting glass, giving the interior a bright and airy feel. The sliding overhead and lateral blinds can provide privacy and shade. The impressive aft-deck lounge (8,50mt in length) features a well protected cockpit, perfect for dining, as well as a large sunbathing area towards the stern of the yacht.

The Arcadia 85S hull#1 has four guest cabins at the lower deck, including the spectacular owner’s cabin amidship. The room is unusually large with a stunningly beautiful en suite head.

The large VIP cabin forward is fitted with a double bed and dressing area. And there are also two more twin cabins. The bow of the yacht offers space for a crew of 4.  The tender garage houses a 4 meter tender and 2 seater Jet Ski.

The Arcadia 85S main salon is more intimate and provides space for up to 8 guests. However, the aft deck, being well protected against the elements, gives the most opportunity for guests to spend time there. The interior of the yacht features modern furniture by well known best of “made in Italy” design brands, such as Poltrone Frau, Cassina and B&B. Almost all the interiors are composed of loose pieces of furniture, thus giving the option of modular layouts. In this version, Arcadia 85 has an open-spaced galley to the dining area.

ABOUT ARCADIA YACHTS

ECOTHINK – A “green” approach reflects in everything we do, in our everyday life, at work and when making big decisions. This is a lifestyle that Arcadia Yachts has managed to bring into the nautical sector through an idea that has combined a functional design and “ethical sense”; an appreciation and respect for the environment. An “ecological idea” which translates into eco-friendly solutions that reduces consumption and environmental impact, allowing her owners and guests to enjoy the sea in a more free and responsible way. With this in mind, the future of yachting is a little greener every day.
ECOTECH – The most advanced technological research and the best Italian creativity to generate innovative and efficient solutions which define a new “sustainable” frontier in yachting:
  • FUNCTIONAL DESIGN with a distinct personal touch, to better integrate shapes and components and reach the highest eco-friendly performance;
  • Double glazing PANELS integrated within the superstructure. This feature ensures maximum comfort whilst recharging the batteries and powering all utilities and services on-board. This is the only way to reduce the use of generators;
  • HYDRODYNAMIC EFFICIENCY of the semi-displacement hull which requires limited engine power, guaranteeing low consumption, emissions and maintenance costs;
  • SOPHISTICATED SYSTEMS which provide waste water treatment to avoid pollution;
  • Optional HYBRID PROPULSION to sail up to 8 knots with “zero emissions” in absolute silence;
  • ARCADIA ASSEMBLING SYSTEM which minimizes the waste materials during the building stage, the use of paints, and helps reduce construction times.
THE SHIPYARD – Shipyard is located in the heart of the Mediterranean: a 36.000m2 facility where craftsmanship, modern technologies, attention to detail and the surrounding environment are perfectly blended together.
THE FLEET – A series of fiberglass yachts ranging from 55 to 115 feet, with new plans to increase the size from 145 feet up to 180 in steel/aluminum.

DSC_3511A GRAND IDEA

If you haven’t caught sight of one of the latest offerings from Jarrett Bay Boatworks, keep looking. You’ll know it when you see it. Guaranteed.

Time and time again, Jarrett Bay has shown it has the depth, vision, and ability to create works of design and engineering art when it comes to its custom builds. One look at its extensive portfolio of truly beautiful boats is testament enough to solidify Randy Ramsey and his crew as occupying a very special place in this sector.

Demonstrating yet again what “truly custom” boat building is all about, custom hull #61 and now known as GRANDER, features some outright bold design choices, including the dark paint and black tower hardware. The result is an aggressively beautiful tactical vehicle that attacks offshore fishing’s status quo.

JB Grander

GRANDER is an exceptional, truly one-of-a-kind, custom build.

Jarrett Bay 46
The cockpit is arranged with a central mezzanine seat that doubles as a large ice maker and cooler, with two freezers accessible in the steps below. Two huge in-deck fish boxes straddle the Release fighting chair and transom livewell with tuna tubes. No space is wasted throughout, with the mezzanine steps and seating hosting multiple flush-face tackle drawers and dry storage.

Jarrett Bay 46
The clean and modern design flows below as the sliding companionway door reveals another striking mix of metallic and wood veneered surfaces. A compact, but capable galley occupies the starboard side which includes a wash basin, microwave convection oven, over/under refrigerator/freezer and recessed storage. A two person v-berth wraps around the forward cabin underneath a central overhead hatch. To port is an extensive tackle storage station, a combination rod and wet hanging locker, and a well-appointed head finished in Stardust Silver throughout.

Jarrett Bay 46
The primary helm features pilot and co-pilot chairs with an artfully designed electronics suite with the latest from Cat, Garmin, FLIR, iCom and Fusion. To starboard is convertible bench seating concealing rod storage, while additional seating, dry storage and an in-deck engine room hatch occupy the space to port forward of the helm.

Jarrett Bay 46
Accessed by teak-covered steps on both sides of the tower, the upper helm area is defined by another teak sole contrasting the dark metallic painted surfaces. Featuring a single pilot chair behind a full pop-up electronics display, the bridge boasts an aft-facing seat as well as larger bench seating and storage forward of the helm.

Jarrett Bay 46
Powered by twin Caterpillar C18 engines with ACERT technology, the boat is every bit as fast as she looks, and economic to boot. Booking along at 40 knots while using around 47 gph, the Grander tops out at 45 knots with a fuel burn of just 59 gph. The boat’s mechanical systems also include a 21.5 kW Cat generator, a generous water maker capacity and a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer.

Jarrett Bay 46
Topped off with a custom satellite and radar dome and her all-black fittings and rigging, GRANDER’s dark demeanor is lit in an impressive spectrum of color at night thanks to an extensive Lumishore LED lighting installation throughout the hardtop, gunwales and transom. Another innovative Jarrett Bay calling card from her larger sisterships made its way onto the 46′ – the Jarrett Bay signature bucket chairs integrated into the forward cabin house.

BILLY JOEL’S COMMUTER
VENDETTA BY ZURN YACHT DESIGN

M/Y Vendetta is the big sister to The Runabout. She keeps with Zurn’s blend of classic styling in a 45-kt package, while offering a much larger platform from which to enjoy Long Island Sound and quick jaunts to other coastal destinations.

Vendetta1In the wake of his highly successful 38’ Runabout with 50+ hulls built to date, Grammy-award winning musician Billy Joel again consulted with Zurn on creating an upscale 57’ Commuter Style Yacht. The end result boasts ample cockpit space and interior appointments, yet is lean enough to roar down Long Island Sound leaving other yachts in her wake.  All is styled in the classic manner of the commuter yachts of the 1920s.

Billy Joel’s completion of his Oyster Bay, Long Island real estate and his frequent trips to NYC was the driving force in deciding to proceed with the design and construction of a commuter style yacht. “Her appearance harks back to a bygone era of Long Island Sound commuter boats, combined with the performance and speed of The Shelter Island Runabout,” Zurn said. “She will provide a quick, smooth ride in the often short chop of Long Island Sound and the menacing Hell Gate”.

VendettaWeighing only 40,000 pounds, VENDETTA glides atop the open ocean with speeds in excess of forty knots, while twin 1300 horsepower MAN diesels coupled to POWER-VENT® Marine Drive System quietly drone under a well-insulated engine room. A relatively narrow, modified-V hull, with plumb bow, slight rocker forward and straight sections aft, makes for an admirable performer, whether ambling in the calm of a secluded cove or piercing wind-whipped swells on an open sea.

Vendetta interior1Vendetta was launched in the summer of 2005, but it’s still almost unknown out of the US. The hull was built using advanced resin infusion technique, incorporating vinylester resin infused into a Dupont Kevlar hybrid cloth with Core Cell foam core.  The goal was to keep the boat’s strength to weight ratio as high as possible.  The hull, deck and small parts were assembled and finished at both Coecles Harbor Marine and Derecktors Mamaroneck Yard.

Vendetta InteriorThe enclosed cockpit easily accommodates a group of six, in four individual Stidd 500 Series Low Back Chairs and a twin bench seat. She is equipped with a custom Raymarineelectronics package.  Down below is decidedly open, with only one personal door providing privacy to the head compartment.  There is a raised galley area aft with small dining table.  Forward are two settee/bunks with day bag storage just above and outboard.  Overhead hatches, portlights and dorade vents offer excellent natural illumination and ventilation while air-conditioning and 24vdc lighting provide additional creature comforts.

Fourth Custom Jarrett Bay Sportfish Delivered to A Family of Anglers

64-foot Builder’s Choice is a powerful testament to fine Carolina boat building.

Builder's Choice shows off her beautiful profile and her proud Carolina flair.

Builder’s Choice shows off her beautiful profile and her proud Carolina flare.

As the company turns the corner on its 30th year of delivering 95+ builds, Jarrett Bay Boatworks announces the launch of their fourth custom sportfish for the Huddle family and their third generation of Builder’s Choice anglers. Jarrett Bay founder Randy Ramsey’s relationship with the Huddles dates back to 1989 when Jack Huddle first walked into the early company’s Williston, North Carolina boat shed and commissioned a 43’ flybridge with merely a handshake. As the Huddles began to outgrow their 43’, a 48’ express and subsequent 55’ convertible were commissioned – preparing them to once again best their last with the latest 64’.

This is an engine room that is as good as it gets.

This is an engine room that is as good as it gets.

From the beautifully contrasting toe rail to the custom Bausch American hardtop, the graceful design and precise execution make Builder’s Choice a quintessential example of Jarrett Bay’s impressive construction acumen and top quality vendor partnerships. Finished in a shimmering Atlantic Blue topcoat from Alexseal, this renowned “Carolina Flare” hull form pairs advancements such as prop tunnels and underwater exhaust with the dependability of conventional shaft propulsion. Massive Caterpillar C32s with ACERT technology propel her to a top speed of 43 knots and a cruising speed in the 34-37 knot range; ensuring she is as fast and capable as she is elegantly striking.

As the Huddle family’s boats have evolved to this latest pinnacle, so have their relationships with Jarrett Bay. Jack’s company, Trader Construction was instrumental in Jarrett Bay’s growth and real estate expansion to their 175-acre Marine Park, and he often considered Randy a brother to his sons Harris and Carl. Harris explains, “Our loyalty to Jarrett Bay started with Jack and Randy and now our family is keeping the tradition going. Randy helps us out and we help him out.” Ramsey adds, “When we say, ‘welcome to the Jarrett Bay family,’ it’s not just a figure of speech, we truly mean it. Especially after the sale, we aim to support our customers’ boating careers for life.”

The interior hallway is only a prelude to what awaits the boat's owners and guests.

The interior hallway is only a prelude to what awaits the boat’s owners and guests.

During the construction of the 64, one of the ways this close relationship was demonstrated were the multiple trips Harris made with the Jarrett Bay team to Atlantic Veneer’s mill to hand-pick the stunning black walnut accents for the interior woodwork. The entire Huddle family also helped with layout decisions and interior appointments such as the space maximizing Release Marine box table with pop-up leaves, custom walnut sunburst dinette with holly inlay, and the stalwart fighting and helm chairs. Family members also worked closely with the talented team at The Captain’s Shop on the custom bridge enclosure, as well as with the on-site team at Crystal Coast Interiors to make many of the comfortably refined interior design choices for the three stateroom, three head layout down below.

Comfort and luxurious surroundings are found in each and every stateroom.

Comfort and luxurious surroundings are found in each and every stateroom.

The yacht’s initial shakedown cruise will be an extended trip from North Carolina to south Florida for her debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on November 5-9, 2015. Huddle says, “After that, we’ll spend the winter based out of Palm Beach before venturing to Isla Mujeres Mexico for the early Winter/Spring sailfish bite, and then hopefully on to the Dominican Republic and eventually Bermuda. We also have visions of fishing the Pacific in the years to come.” An abundance of functional storage, redundant Cat generators and an auxiliary fuel tank are among the custom features that were built in from the start to help make these long range expeditions a reality for the Huddle family and their guests.

There's plenty of tackle storage aboard including this hallway closet.

Working with Jarrett Bay’s industry partners at Offshore Marine Electronics, Garmin, JL Audio, FLIR, Simrad, Northstar, Icom and SiTex, the Huddles assembled a navigation package designed to put them on the bite with laser-like precision, as well as enjoy modern entertainment and advanced monitoring amenities.

A bridge deck and helm truly worthy of an A-list tournament sportfishing yacht.

A thoughtfully planned systems and video monitor even affords guests relaxing in the climate-controlled salon a live view of the action from the bridge. For all the craftsmen at Jarrett Bay, the Builder’s Choice is a highly functioning piece of art to be supremely proud of, and even sentimental about, as she leaves the facility for the first time. Jarrett Bay new construction foreman Gary Davis jests, “Delivering a boat we’ve worked on day in and out for years is like walking your daughter down the aisle.” But as in all quality relationships, the Jarrett Bay team knows the bride will eventually return home – perhaps often – just as the Huddle family has proven to.

The business end of this Jarrett Bay 64 is bound to see lots of action.

Builder’s Choice is among the first in a flurry of new construction activity contracted at Jarrett Bay during the economic recovery. Following soon after the Builder’s Choice debut in Fort Lauderdale will be a 46′ express splashing later this year, while an in-progress 84′ and 90′ convertible are each slated for completion in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Bigger IS Better…And Lots More Impressive!

What do you do if you own one of the world’s most spectacular superyachts? If you’re Russian Billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko, you build another one even more over the top.

By Capt. Ken Kreisler

When I first caught sight of Motor Yacht A, and being a fan of the more traditional design, i.e., a boat should look like a boat, I was a bit taken aback. But the more I looked; the more I dug into the design, technology, and collective engineering and artistic endeavors that went into her, the more I began to come around and see this daring and advanced presentation as a bold personal statement and perhaps, a vision of the future of yacht design.

Built by Bloom & Voss, Superyacht A is a technologically advanced yacht with a bold and daring design.

Built by Blohm + Voss at the HDW shipyard in Kiel, Germany, Motor Yacht A is a technologically advanced yacht with a bold and daring design by Philippe Starck and Martin Francis.

Now, Mr. Melnichenko, the co-founder of MDM Bank, with holdings and properties around the world including the Siberian Coal Energy Company, Eurochem, and TMK, a pipe and metallurgic company among others, as well as being Motor Yacht A‘s owner, presents Sailing Yacht A, a truly amazing accomplishment and one sure to be the answer to what dreams are made of.

Built at the Nobiskrug, Germany yard, she will be the world’s largest sailing yacht coming in at 144 meters or 468 ft. Sailing Yacht A is designed by Philippe Starck.

Built at the Nobiskrug, Germany yard, and designed by Phillippe Starck, she is the world’s largest sailing yacht coming in at 144 meters/468 ft.

This impressive new steel-hulled yacht is certainly setting standards all over the world. She is 468ft/144m in length with a carbon fiber main mast almost 300 ft/91.4m high, has eight decks, is equipped with an underwater observation observation area, a helicopter pad, an on-deck swimming pool, and as you would expect, all the latest computerized control systems one could imagine. While under power, she has a pair of 3,600kw/4,827hp MTU diesel engines along with two 4,300kw electric motors.

Impressive from any angle, Sailing Yacht A is a triumph of both design and engineering.

While she undergoes her European sea trails, her interior, yet to be finished, will be as widely anticipated as her launch date.

We will be sure to keep a sharp weather eye out for this one and if you happen to get a glimpse of her underway, or visiting a port, let us know.

M/Y YALLA

This CRN beauty is in a class all by herself.

Stunningly beautiful with dramatic lines, CRN's YALLA is sure to be seen in all the ports of the world.

Stunningly beautiful with dramatic lines, CRN’s YALLA is sure to be seen in all the ports of the world.

CRN, the shipbuilder specializing in the construction of steel and aluminum pleasure vessels between 50 and 90 metres in length, is starting the nautical season celebrating the international award won by the 73-metre M/Y Yalla at the Invictus Yachts Trophies.

This contest, organized every year by Luxmedia Group, selects and awards the best yachts built by shipyards from all over the world. The prize-giving ceremony was held on Saturday night, at the end of the Cannes Yachting Festival.

The iconic 73-metre yacht built by CRN won in the ‘Best Exterior Design’ category among megayachts between 50 and 75 metres in length. This award goes to the yacht that has stood out for the design of her exteriors and hull lines.

YALLA impressed the highly-qualified jury for her slender and stylish lines that make her dramatic design one of a kind. She had four decks and was entirely designed and built at the Ancona shipyard in cooperation with Omega Architects, who designed her exterior lines, and with Droulers Architecture, who took care of interior design and décor. This vessel – the first ever built by CRN on a 13-metre long naval platform, is characterized by extremely sleek and sporty lines. All CRN onboard advanced solutions are aimed at enhancing conviviality and social life on board.

Lamberto Tacoli, CRN’s Chairman and CEO, commented on this important acknowledgement as follows: “We are very happy and proud to be starting the new nautical season celebrating such a prestigious award at the ‘Invictus Yachts Trophy’. The YALLA is a distinctive, unique product, thanks to the design by Omega Architects; Frank Laupman and his team, who have pencilled the yacht’s exterior lines, worked side by side with CRN, who was in charge of naval engineering, and with Droulers Architecture, who took care of interior décor and furnishing. We are deeply grateful to all of them and, obviously, to the owner, who gave us the opportunity to build this breathtaking vessel. This important award is spurring CRN to take part in the forthcoming international events with even greater enthusiasm and passion.”

The award won at the Invictus Yachts Trophies adds to CRN’s already stunning prize-record. Indeed, this year the shipbuilder has also been awarded the ‘Judges Commendation’ at the World Superyachts Awards in Amsterdam with the 61-metre M/Y Saramour.
