The Azimut 80: Continuing The Vision

An exciting approach to both interior and exterior design results in yet another leap forward for this highly respected builder.

By Capt. Ken Kreisler

No matter how you look at it, Paolo Vitelli is a visionary. In 1969, the then young university student had an idea to charter sailboats and, to begin his ascendency in the world of yachting, founded Azimut Sri.

A year later, several prestigious boat builders, quickly recognizing his potential, approached Vitelli with an offer to distribute their boats in Italy. With the new business coming in, Azimut began to expand and was soon designing its own yachts, introducing the AZ 43. By 1977, the line included a 32-foot Targa model and, in 1985, the 105-foot Failaka. The big news, of course, occurred in 1987 when Azimut acquired Benetti, the highly esteemed Viareggio-based builder whose credentials reach back to 1873.

Adding to its impressive line up, Azimut’s 80-foot flybridge has all the qualities of the imaginative Vitelli and his equally talented crews of designers, engineers, and craftspeople that have always been built into every yacht…and then some.

While never compromising on its heritage of designing and producing well-built yachts, Azimut has, with its 80, looked to yet another way to take its use of interior living space to a new level. A minimalistic outlook is the key and to that end, this build utilizes the available layout, furnishing design, and even the latest advances in lighting to create the kind of personal statement any owner would be most proud of. And that includes the living accommodations as well. Here, Azimut designers fill the spaces with the kind of lines, forms, and concepts that results in an elegant and sophisticated end product.

Azimut 60: All-New Azimut Model Announced

Azimut Yachts presented the Azimut 60 to the world for the first time at the 2011 Genoa Boat Show in Italy earlier this year. Many in the yachting industry believe she represents the natural evolution of the 2007 launched Azimut 58 Motoryacht.
Based on the same hull lines of the 58, Azimut presents a new model with the 60 which follows patterns as seen on the 64 launched in 2010.  That is similar flybridge profile windows, and design patterns.  The Azimut 60 also improves in many areas of its layout from the full-beam Master Stateroom now with breakfast dining table as first shown in the now stop produced 68S in 2003, to a 2-berth crew cabin located aft. Note: The Azimut 58 only featured a single crew berth option.

A first in this size comes in the crew cabin, with a bathing platform entrance door being a unique feature in a motoryacht of just 18-meters.  If the crew cabin is located aft this is usually found in a hatch of the aft deck.  Other improvements if you compare this model to the 58 come from the bathing platform now being 40% more spacious, as is the increased size of the flybridge C-shaped settee, and L-shaped wet bar galley. For the rest this model holds the pressure of following the success of the 2000 launched 55 which in a 9-year production run has delivered over 400 units.
